HOW IT STARTED
Mariela noticed a musty smell in the living room and a stain on the baseboard.
The insurance company sent an adjuster, who saw the mold and treated it as something minor: a surface cleaning and an antimicrobial spray.
Offer: $800.
Mariela knew that wasn’t going to solve the problem, so she called us.
WHAT WE FOUND
When we opened the wall (the «before» photo), the mold wasn’t just on the surface. It was on the back side of the drywall, the concrete block, and the metal studs.
Cleaning only the outside meant the mold would be back within weeks.
Using photos and a moisture meter, we documented that the affected drywall had to be cut out and replaced, not just cleaned.
HOW WE BUILT THE CLAIM
A detailed, line-by-line estimate: sealed plastic containment, removal of the damaged drywall, treatment of the block and studs, new drywall, and paint.
We backed up every line item with photos and moisture readings.
The «after» photo shows the professional containment the initial offer never accounted for.
And most importantly: a real repair, not a patch that was bound to fail.
The Lesson: The first adjuster works for the insurance company. Before you accept, get a second opinion.
